Hendrik Roggemann – Photography between Art and Documentation
Every photograph is a fragment of time – a captured moment that tells more than the obvious. As a photographer, I operate at the interface between art and documentation, between staging and authenticity. My view is characterized by a fascination for light, structure and expression.
Whether portraits, travel photography or documentary work – my pictures tell stories that cannot be put into words. They arise from encounters with people, places and situations, from the ability to see the special in the everyday.
My work as a photographer is not only about aesthetics, but also about meaning. I strive to capture moments in such a way that they are not just recorded, but become tangible. I am inspired by cinematic and painterly compositions, but also by the spontaneous immediacy of reportage photography.
Photography between staging and authenticity
Sometimes a picture requires clear direction, a conscious design of light and perspective. At other times, it is about capturing the perfect moment without influencing it. My photography moves between these poles – it is neither purely staged nor a mere depiction. It is an expression of a point of view, a narrative style that conveys emotion and depth.

From the camera to the finished picture
For me, the photographic process does not end when I release the shutter. Digital post-processing is an essential part of my work. It does not serve to falsify reality, but to tell it more precisely – to intensify colors, to work out lighting moods or to shape a visual signature.
Artistic expression and documentary precision – united in one image
My aim is to create images that are both aesthetically and narratively convincing. Whether for private or business projects, magazines, campaigns or individual commissions – I work with people and companies who value expressive, timeless photography.

My films are small, unique pieces that I produce with a lot of love and an eye for detail.
I have specialized in small video productions, which I can mostly handle on my own. For larger projects, I rely on my network of creative people, some of whom I have worked with for many years and in other countries.
For me, the advantage of this way of working, apart from the lower costs, is that a more intimate atmosphere, more authentic moments, i.e. more genuine emotion, can take place than when a large film team is in the room.
A video produced with heart also reaches the hearts of the viewers.
I photograph people by first building a relationship – because real, touching images are not created through technology alone, but through trust.
Before I pick up the camera, I take the time to get to know the person I’m photographing, establish a connection and create an atmosphere in which people feel comfortable. Every person has their own charisma, their own story, and my aim is to make this visible in my pictures.
While I work quickly and intuitively when taking photographs, building this relationship is a conscious process. I observe, listen and ask questions – not only to understand my subject, but also to create an environment in which authenticity is possible.
Only when this basis is in place do portraits emerge that show more than just a face. They reflect character, emotion and personality. The camera is just the tool – the actual image is created through the interplay of trust, openness and the right moment.
